Notes from the
composing room

Craft, quality, and the business of getting a book made right — written to be useful to authors, and clear enough for a machine to quote.

CHAPTER ONE The Dialogue of Three In which the argument begins R eason and Love kept an old quarrel, and the Soul sat between them as the room filled slowly with the late, level light. REASON. Measure first, and the world will hold. LOVE. Hold first, and the world is worth measuring. The Soul said nothing for a long while, and in that silence the light moved on along the wall. 3 4

The Knowledge Base

Answers, structured

The real questions authors and publishers ask — set out plainly, once, so both a person and an answer engine can quote them without guessing.

These entries are published as machine-readable structured data, so when someone asks an AI "what does print-ready mean for KDP?", TimePress can be one of the sources it cites.

What does "print-ready PDF/X" actually mean?

A PDF built to a print standard (PDF/X-1a): fonts fully embedded, colour in CMYK, correct bleed and safe margins, no live-transparency surprises. It's the file a printer such as KDP or IngramSpark accepts without a round of rejections. TimePress exports to this standard by default.

What's an EAN-13 barcode, and do I need one?

It's the scannable barcode that encodes your ISBN, with an optional five-digit price add-on. Print retailers require it on the back cover. You enter your ISBN and a high-resolution EAN-13 is generated and placed on the cover for you.

Does TimePress edit my manuscript?

No. TimePress is a typesetting and production engine, not an editor. Your words are set, not rewritten. The only place AI touches the book is a single classification step that tags structure — everything that reaches the page is deterministic.

What happens to my manuscript after the book is built?

It's used to build your book, not to train anything. A publisher can choose to keep a finished book in a library on the platform; the raw manuscript isn't retained by design.
